The Ministry of Urban Development and Land – MUDL, through the Restoration and Consolidation of Historical Monument and Mosques Project reconstructs the Great Masque or Masjid-i Jami of Herat in the province. The project belongs to the Information and Culture and Hajj and Religious Affair Ministries and will construct in two phases at a total cost of 24,100,000 AFN. The Great Mosque is laid out in the traditional rectangular iwan pattern, with three walls and a huge central courtyard. Some of the original decoration remains in the center section, but much has been replaced.
